Egypt pledges support to Saudi Arabia amid Houthi attacks
Egypt's top defence council vowed to back Saudi security and holy sites, a move seen as defensive amid escalating strikes by Yemeni Houthis.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi chaired a National Defence Council meeting in Cairo where officials pledged to provide Saudi Arabia with support to defend its security, protect its resources, and safeguard its Islamic holy sites. The council declared full solidarity with Riyadh, noting that Saudi national security is linked to that of Egypt and the wider Arab world.
Egypt also committed to intensifying diplomatic and political efforts with regional and international partners to ease tensions and resolve ongoing crises in the Middle East. Analysts suggest that any military contribution from Cairo will be strictly defensive, reflecting its earlier role in the Saudi-led coalition during the 2015 Yemen intervention.
