French authorities and businesses are assessing the extent of damage following nationwide demonstrations involving approximately 550,000 participants that escalated into violence and looting. Interior Ministry estimates indicate around 550,000 people took part in roughly 110 marches across the country, although organizers including the CGT trade union claimed the figure was closer to 800,000.

Violence disrupted several major cities, with demonstrations rampaging through town halls and administrative buildings in Marseille, Lille, Angers, and Bordeaux, leaving broken statues and furniture in their wake. In Limoges, a historic town hall built in 1883 was set on fire, causing significant structural damage to the protected monument.

President Emmanuel Macron stated on social media that those who smashed property and attacked institutions would be prosecuted and punished, while Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said it was a miracle the toll was not heavier. French security forces reported arresting more than 1,200 people and 150 officers were injured during the protests.
