Texas Edge Rusher Colin Simmons Suffers Leg Injury in Upset Loss to Florida
No. 7 Texas drops a 27-24 heartbreaker to Florida after blowing a 14-point lead, and its leading pass rusher exits early in the fourth quarter with an apparent right ankle injury.
Texas longhorns edge rusher Colin Simmons, the nation's leading sack artist with 10 on the season, was helped off the field early in the fourth quarter with an apparent right ankle injury during Saturday's game at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.
Florida rallied from a 17-3 second-quarter deficit, scoring 24 consecutive points to take a 27-17 lead before Arch Manning threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Cam Coleman with 4:21 remaining. A second-down sack and fumble by Manning ended the Longhorns' final drive in a 27-24 upset.
The loss drops No. 7 Texas to 4-2 and likely pushes it out of the top 10 in Sunday's updated College Football Playoff rankings after the Longhorns fell from No. 1 earlier this season. They have now lost consecutive games to unranked opponents, having beaten Ohio State and Tennessee in September.
Sophomore quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. made his first career start for Florida after Aaron Philo was injured, guiding the Gators (5-2) back into the CFP discussion. Florida now prepares for top-ranked Georgia on Oct. 31.
