The United Arab Emirates has extended its 10-year golden visa program to professionals beyond high-net-worth investors, including nurses, teachers, and e-sports gamers. Launched in 2019, the program originally granted long-term residency to those investing at least $545,000 in property, but it was subsequently expanded in 2020 and 2022 to cover a broader range of skilled talent, according to a report by Fortune.

Dubai has specifically utilized the visa to bolster its healthcare and gaming sectors. The city granted golden visas to more than 1,400 nurses and midwives as well as over 223 educators from various institutions. Additionally, e-sports professionals are eligible for the visa as part of a government initiative to create 30,000 gaming jobs by 2033, aiming to add approximately $1 billion to the GDP of a region that already hosts over 350 gaming companies.
