US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee condemned the recent coordinated attacks by masked Israeli settlers, labeling the assault on an American journalist as "a despicable act of terror carried out by masked cowards." The violence coincides with the annual olive harvest in the West Bank, where settler activities have intensified, resulting in a significant number of injuries and deaths reported by local authorities.

Heidi Levine, an award-winning photojournalist for The Washington Post, was seriously injured on Friday when approximately 80 masked settlers attacked a village's harvest in Abu Falah. Speaking from a hospital bed where she remains in stable condition, Levine described being beaten for over ten minutes and had her camera, passport, and phone stolen. Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot demanded that Israeli authorities arrest and prosecute those responsible for the Saturday attack on a convoy of European diplomats.

The diplomatic crisis deepened on Saturday when settlers assaulted Bernard Baudoux, the mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries, and other European diplomats in the Christian village of Taybeh. Baudoux, who was visiting to support local olive farmers, reported being kicked and struck with iron bars. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing significant political pressure ahead of the October 27 elections, characterized the incident as a "smear" campaign and questioned why the diplomats did not coordinate with the Israeli military.

In response to the escalating tensions, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the violence represents a brewing crisis in the territory. While Israeli police have opened investigations into both the attack on the American photographer and the assault on the diplomats, the international community continues to debate the effectiveness of current measures in protecting journalists, activists, and civilians in the occupied West Bank.
