Saudi Arabia Orders Skyscraper Employees to Work From Home Amid Houthi Threats
The Kingdom Center skyscraper in Riyadh told people employed there to work from home due to possible attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels. The 99-storey tower is one of Saudi Arabia's tallest buildings and houses important financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and wealth management company Merrill Lynch.
Building management told tenants that the new work-from-home order is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice. While the office tower's management enacted the mandatory remote work policy, the shopping center located at the foot of the building will remain open for now.
The security measures coincide with an escalation in the conflict between the Saudi-led coalition and Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Schools across Riyadh and surrounding areas have shifted classes online for a second week, while King Khalid International Airport remains closed following a Houthi attack that resulted in 13 casualties.
